Job summary

The California Military Department seeks a Personnel Supervisor I to lead the State Personnel Programs, Pay & Benefits unit. You will supervise Personnel Specialists, oversee payroll processing, personnel actions, and benefits eligibility, and ensure accuracy and timely reporting to meet critical deadlines.

This is a readvertisement with a hybrid telework option. Duties include training staff, evaluating performance, and implementing progressive discipline while aligning with civil service laws

Qualifications

• Apply and interpret complex civil service laws, rules, regulations, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Lead large-scale technical projects, coordinate multi-layered project tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to technical project teams, state agency partners, and internal staff.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with SCO project staff, department managers, and transactions personnel.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the State Personnel Programs, Pay & Benefits unit and provide training on payroll processing, personnel actions, and benefits eligibility.
• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate activities and performance of Personnel Specialists.
• Monitor workflow and ensure accuracy and integrity to meet critical deadlines.
• Implement progressive discipline and improve team performance.
• Coordinate with department partners to ensure compliance with laws and bargaining agreements.
