Job summary

Emmanuel Sheppard & Condon seeks an experienced HR/Payroll Specialist to support payroll processing and daily HR and benefits functions within our administrative team.

You will work closely with Firm leadership and Accounting, serving as a resource for payroll, benefits, leave, onboarding, and other HR-related matters while handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications

• At least three years of experience in payroll, human resources, benefits administration, or a similar role preferred.
• Experience processing payroll in a professional-services environment.
• Law firm experience is a plus but not required.
• Working knowledge of payroll practices, employee benefits, and HR administration.
• FLSA, FMLA, COBRA knowledge and general employment recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll accurately and timely for attorneys and staff.
• Maintain payroll records: new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, deductions, and benefit elections.
• Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding.
• Maintain confidential personnel and HR records.
• Administer employee benefit programs and assist with benefit inquiries.
• Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment.
• Maintain PTO, leave, and attendance records.
• Assist with FMLA and other leave administration.
• Coordinate payroll deductions for benefits and retirement plans.
• Assist with benefit invoice reconciliation.
• Support annual performance review processes and other HR initiatives.
• Assist with I-9 documentation and workers' compensation matters.
• Respond to routine payroll/HR questions; escalate complex matters.
• Collaborate with Firm leadership, Accounting, payroll providers, and vendors.
