By elevating education systems, managing and securing critical networks, solving complex human capital and fiscal problems, and advancing equity as a performance imperative, we can impact communities, for good, through client partnership. We deliver these solutions through our “three-point stance” of technology, education, and performance offerings.

Celebrating its 50th year in 2025, the firm attracts exceptional talent and empowers them to exceed client expectations as they navigate the dynamic demands of the clients we serve.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

We are hiring a Payroll Director who will help MGT build, improve, and manage payroll processes and related HR technology capabilities, with a dedicated focus on enhancing employee experience for our rapidly growing organization. Reporting to the VP of our People Operations team, our ideal candidate has the right experience and is passionate about leading payroll operations, building great teams, leveraging and enhancing technology, developing scalable and compliant processes, designing amazing employee experiences, and developing project plans to ensure strong delivery.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Lead the design and implementation of the strategy, plan, and roadmap to build a world-class payroll function that supports MGT’s strategic growth plan.
  • Manage a team that oversees the full life cycle payroll function and ensures timely and accurate bi-weekly payroll processing and post-payroll activities. Respond to and address routine, day-to-day payroll-and compliance-related inquiries, providing world-class service.
  • Lead annual activities, including audits, compensation reviews, year-end reporting, and open enrollment.

  • Manage all payroll due diligence, third-party integration activities, and payroll vendor relationships.
  • Define, design, maintain, and enhance payroll and related HR technologies. Serve as a payroll systems subject matter expert, enabling more productive and value-driven use of the platform with a focus on improving employee experience.
  • Assess and deploy a new payroll system for 2026 and introduce new processes and capabilities in partnership with business leaders as new functionality is introduced.
  • Serve as the payroll subject matter expert during the due diligence and combination phases supporting MGT’s inorganic growth plan.
  • Design and implement payroll policies and procedures to support our organization's growth and development.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and practices and with federal, state, and local employment laws, including timely tax filings, registrations, and reporting to federal, state, and local agencies. Stay current with changes in employment laws and regulations and ensure compliance with those changes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements based on trends, best practices, and payroll regulations. Lead process improvement initiatives. Establish and maintain open communication channels to solicit employee feedback on payroll-related matters. Act as a liaison between employees and management to ensure employee concerns are addressed effectively.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and support in all matters related to payroll operations, HR technologies, and payroll compliance.
  • Develop and analyze appropriate payroll and system metrics, data, SLAs, and trends to meet management information needs.
  • Lead or contribute to other HR-related duties, projects, and initiatives involving the HR lifecycle, HR technology implementations, process improvements, and compliance audits.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, finance, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive payroll experience, including experience leading a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. payroll compliance requirements and state and local payroll tax reporting.
  • Three (3) or more years of project management and solution delivery experience, with the ability to plan and lead complex initiatives.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll operations and payroll system administration.
  • Proven ability to improve payroll processes and employee experiences through hands-on, detail-oriented leadership.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize disparate information into clear, actionable reports and recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently in a virtual, fast-paced, entrepreneurial, diverse, and dynamic environment.
