Job description

This is a WORK TEST POSITION which requires successful completion of 90 days on the job training before being eligible for appointment to probationary status. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and two (2) years of experience installing and replacing roofs or, a year for year interchange of related education and experience equal to the minimum qualifications.

Licensing Requirements

Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License or proof of mobility equivalent.

JOB SUMMARY; DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS; ESSENTIAL DUTIES; KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Incumbent in this class performs operational duties related to roofing activities. Responsibilities include applying new roofing materials and repairing old roofs; repairing and applying torch down, mop-applied, and heat welded roofs; repairing and installing gutters, shingles, flash units, pipes, and drains; and patching leaks.

This is the first level within a two-level roofer classification series. Roofer is distinguished from Roofer, Lead in that the former applies, repairs, or replaces roofs using various roofing methods, whereas the latter provides lead direction to assigned staff in addition to performing standard roofing duties and monitoring expenditures.

Performs preparatory work, including ensuring that all required materials and equipment are available and inspecting work sites for potential problems. Performs roofing activities, including checking roofs for damage. Applies new and repairs old roofing, including repairing and applying torch down, mop-applied, and heat welded roofs; repairing and installing gutters and shingles; installing flash units, pipes, and drains; determining the location of leaks; and inspecting, patching, and replacing roofing. Performs cleanup at the end of the workday or when jobs are completed, including cleaning up materials and debris, picking up tools, cleaning work area, and performing touchup work as needed. Meets with supervisor to discuss work assignments and priorities.
