Job summary

The Claremont Colleges Services is seeking an Assistant Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations for seven entities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and international regulations. The role acts as a subject matter expert in payroll taxation and reporting, supports system improvements, and collaborates across Human Resources and Finance.

The position serves as a backup to the Payroll Manager, develops controls, and leads training for staff to ensure accurate and timely

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
• Five+ years of progressively responsible payroll experience, including supervision.
• Experience with enterprise HR/Payroll systems (Workday preferred).
• CPP preferred; strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and institutional policies.
• Audit payroll registers, tax reports, and reconciliations for accuracy and compliance.
• Provide technical payroll guidance to staff, HR, and campus stakeholders.
• Assist in payroll system testing, upgrades, and implementation.
• Prepare and reconcile international payroll tax filings and related documentation.
• Support year-end payroll activities and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Mentor payroll staff and promote consistent payroll practices.
