Job summary

NRI Staffing is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist in the District of Columbia to manage payroll and benefits systems, stay current on laws, and optimize programs. You will support audits, open enrollment, and reporting while coordinating with accounting and staff.

The role requires 3+ years in human resources, payroll, or benefits, and a BS/BA in a related field. SHRM certification is a plus, with an emphasis on discretion and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of payroll and benefits software and websites used.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant laws and policies and procedures
• Recommend development and revision of employee benefit programs after evaluating costs, regulatory requirements, and competitiveness.
• Prepare for benefit audits, including 401k, and consult with auditors
• Collaborate with internal staff, temps, and accounting on payroll and benefits questions
• Prepare and submit reports required or requested
• Process annual open enrollment
• Prepare annual forms and filings for controller review and submission
• Pay and file payroll taxes, workers compensation, deductions, garnishments, etc.
• Send Annual Notices as required for payroll and benefits
• All other duties as assigned
