Job summary

Notion is seeking a Payroll Analyst to manage accurate, on-time U.S. payrolls and provide coverage for the payroll team. You will partner with Accounting, People Ops, and Benefits to refine processes, ensuring compliance and reliability in a fast‑growing environment.

Based in San Francisco or New York City, this role entails hands-on processing, improving workflows, and upholding accuracy and employee trust while aligning with anchor days for in-person collaboration.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of US payroll processing experience in small to midsize organizations.
• Strong knowledge of Federal/State payroll tax and labor laws.
• Experience with in-house payroll systems and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a high-growth environment.
• Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas) and comfort using AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage and reconcile bi-weekly, quarterly (commissions), and off-cycle payrolls in the US using Workday.
• Own Time Tracking for non-exempt hourly employees to ensure timely submission and approvals.
• Process leave of absence, fringe benefits, equity transactions, and retirement contributions.
• Coordinate with ADP support for garnishments, taxes, and net pay accuracy.
• Collaborate with People, Finance, and external payroll partners to improve workflows.
• Serve as first point of contact for US payroll inquiries and provide excellent employee experience.
• Generate and analyze payroll reports in Workday.
• Prepare month-end US payroll journal entries and assist with balance sheet reconciliations.
• Provide support to Senior Payroll Analyst and handle ad-hoc tasks.
