Position Information:
Under the general direction of the Payroll Systems Coordination Supervisor, the Payroll Analyst 3 is responsible for the coordination of payroll activities between employees, departments, shared services, and the UCPath Center. Confirmation of General Ledger (GL), creation of multiple monthly payroll and cost transfer journal feeds. Coordination of payroll and GL issue resolution with the UCPath Center, analysis of payroll transactions for completeness. Completion of complex payroll expense transfers, preparation of manual journal corrections and documentation of UCPath system errors, establishment of complex payroll position funding, analysis of payroll funding discrepancies, cross-functional support of the Accounting and Payroll Coordination & Analysis unit. Respond to Shared Service Center inquiries on payroll and all payroll related matters. This role is critical in maintaining the support level to employees, campus departments, and the shared services center.

The full salary range for the Payroll Analyst 3 is $61,000 - $106,800 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $83,900 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Requirements:

  1. Educational Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
    • Master's degree in Accounting or related field. (Preferred)
  2. Experience Requirements
    • A broad range of experience with a large, complex automated payroll system. (Required)
    • 4 - 7 years of related experience. (Required)
    • Demonstrated experience with UCPath system, UCR Financial Tools, Position Funding Tool, and SCT tool (Preferred)
    • Payroll accounting analysis, Position Funding, and salary cost transfers (Preferred)
  3. Special Conditions
    • Hired candidate must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment start date. (Required)
    • Business necessitates vacations planned around important deadlines, such as payroll processing cycles. (Required)
  4. Minimum Requirements
    • Thorough knowledge of all payroll processes, policies, and procedures; knowledge of organization-specific computer application programs.
    • Strong judgment and decision-making skills; verbal, written and active listening communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
    • Problem solving and reasoning skills.
    • Strong mathematical skills.
    • Knowledge of internal controls and evaluating potential risk.
    • Keen eye for detail to ensure correct coding of data.
    • Advanced skills using personal computer including experience using Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to appropriately manage and prioritize tasks with overlapping deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skill preparing and delivering successful training workshops.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of non-resident alien tax withholding requirements for payments to employees, contractors and students.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced payroll professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures. Works on complex payroll problems where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Department Custom Scope:
Under the general direction of the Payroll Systems Coordination Supervisor, the Payroll Analyst 3 is responsible for the coordination of payroll activities between employees, departments, shared services, and the UCPath Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provides analysis for complex payroll projects, such as verifying tax treaty forms, and resolving non-resident alien payroll issues, complex payroll retroactivity, and various State and Federal regulations.
  2. Applies payroll concepts to perform complex analysis regarding pay processing adjustments, including retroactive pay, tax withholding, and overpayments.
  3. Manages monthly reconciliation of bank payroll accounts.
  4. Calculates complex terminal pay issues.
  5. Provides training to payroll processors and human resource staff on payroll topics.
  6. Documents payroll processes and procedures.
