Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join their team and manage weekly payroll processing for a large employee population. This individual will oversee payroll from start to finish, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with applicable payroll regulations and union requirements.

The ideal candidate has hands-on, in-house payroll experience, a strong understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, and garnishments, and previous union payroll experience. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven, detail-oriented professional who takes ownership of their work and can confidently manage payroll in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full-cycle, weekly payroll process from start to finish for approximately 700 employees.
  • Process payroll accurately and ensure all employees are paid on time.
  • Administer payroll for both salaried and hourly employees, including union employees.
  • Interpret and apply union agreements and payroll requirements to ensure accurate employee compensation.
  • Calculate and process payroll deductions, garnishments, taxes, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, responding to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and withholdings.
  • Review payroll data for accuracy and completeness before finalizing each payroll cycle.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to maintain accurate employee payroll information and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and compensation information.
  • Meet strict weekly payroll deadlines, with a heavier workload on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll from beginning to end.
  • Previous union payroll experience is required.
  • Prior in-house payroll experience is required; payroll service provider experience alone will not meet the requirement.
  • Strong understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and payroll calculations.
  • Experience processing weekly payroll or a strong understanding of the demands and deadlines associated with frequent payroll cycles.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to payroll accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, including the ability to explain payroll deductions and garnishments clearly to employees.
  • A confident, knowledgeable, and humble approach to working with colleagues and employees.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Dayforce or Procore.
  • Familiarity with French employee benefits or related benefits administration.
  • Experience supporting a large, hourly workforce.

This position is fully onsite, with a preferred location of Warren, Michigan. Candidates must be comfortable working Monday through Friday, beginning at 7:00 AM, with payroll deadlines requiring particular focus at the start of each week.
