Job summary

Pemco Corporation is seeking a Payroll Clerk to manage end-to-end payroll processing and related HR support in a professional office setting. You will verify timesheets, process wages and deductions, and ensure compliance with applicable laws.

The role requires 1–2 years of payroll or bookkeeping experience, proficiency with ADP and Excel, and strong attention to detail. You will collaborate with HR and finance teams to maintain payroll accuracy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of payroll or bookkeeping experience.
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations and FLSA is preferred.
  • Proficiency with ADP payroll software and Excel.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll processing: collect, review, and verify timesheets; calculate wages, overtime, and deductions; ensure timely payments.
  • Maintain payroll records, employee files, and reports with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws and company policies (including garnishments, deductions, and 401(k)).
  • Serve as primary contact for payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies; issue off-cycle payments if needed.
  • Assist HR with basic HR inquiries and compliance, directing employees to resources as appropriate.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management, summarizing expenses and payroll metrics.
  • Collaborate with HR and finance to ensure accurate data, salary adjustments, terminations, and benefits administration.
  • Monitor outstanding balances and assist accounts receivable as needed.

About this position

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing: Collect, review, and verify employee timesheets, calculate wages, overtime, and deductions, and process payroll through ADP systems to ensure timely and accurate payments to employees (including direct deposits and physical checks).
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain and update payroll records, employee files, and payroll reports, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Compliance: Ensure payroll operations comply with federal, state, and local wage laws, tax regulations, and company policies, including handling garnishments, benefits deductions, and 401(k) contributions.
  • Employee Support: Serve as the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries, resolving discrepancies, explaining tax withholdings, and issuing off-cycle payments if necessary.
  • HR Support: Assist the HR department by responding to basic HR-related questions, directing employees to appropriate resources, and helping ensure employee inquiries are handled accurately, confidentially, and in a timely manner.
  • Reporting: Prepare payroll reports for management, including summaries of payroll expenses, overtime, and other payroll metrics.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure accurate employee data, salary adjustments, terminations, and benefits administration.
  • Accounts Receivable: Mmonitor outstanding balances, reconcile customer accounts, and follow up on past-due accounts to support accurate cash flow and timely collections.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in ADP payroll software, Microsoft Excel, and other accounting or HR systems.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong numerical accuracy and organizational skills to manage sensitive payroll data.
  • Knowledge of Regulations: Understanding of payroll laws, tax compliance, and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Experience: Typically requires 1–2 years of payroll or bookkeeping experience, with familiarity in payroll processing and financial recordkeeping .
  • Soft Skills: Discretion, trustworthiness, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication for interacting with employees and management.
  • Operates in a professional office setting, often reporting to a HR Manager, and CFO
  • Routine use of standard office equipment and payroll software.
  • May involve handling confidential employee information and sensitive financial data.
