Job summary

United Migrant Opportunity Services in Milwaukee seeks a Payroll and Accounts Payable Manager to lead payroll operations, oversee accounts payable, and ensure regulatory compliance.

This full-time role requires four or more years of payroll experience, leadership ability, and proficiency with UKG, Sage ERP systems, and Excel.

You will implement procedures, collaborate with HR and finance, manage 401(k) activities, and provide backup payroll processing in a mission‑driven nonprofit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
• Four or more years of payroll experience.
• Two or more years of leadership experience.
• Experience in multi-state payroll and taxes is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Experience with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Working knowledge of payroll and financial software applications.
• Experience with UKG is a plus.
• Experience with BI software is a plus.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel and MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee payroll operations, including timekeeping, processing, and deductions.
• Supervise payroll staff and ensure timely payroll processing.
• Develop and maintain payroll procedures and training resources.
• Coordinate with HR and accounting on payroll issues.
• Monitor 401(k) activity and related reporting.
• Balance general ledger accounts related to payroll.
• Coordinate with external auditors for financial audits and program monitoring.
• Oversee payroll reports and deposits across states.
