Job summary

Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana is seeking a Payroll Accounting Analyst to ensure accurate and timely pay for employees across multiple states. The role focuses on data entry, validation, and reconciliations within our payroll cycle, while maintaining compliance with policy and regulatory requirements.

You'll work in a hybrid environment in Okemos, MI, collaborating with finance and HR teams, and supporting audits and reporting with attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in accounting or related field required.
• Two years of payroll, financial accounting, or financial reporting experience.
• FPC certification preferred; Workday experience preferred; proficiency in Excel/Word.

Responsibilities

• Process complete multi-state payroll cycles with data entry, verification, and attendance balance.
• Coordinate payroll with third-party vendor processing.
• Analyze, audit, and reconcile payroll to ensure accuracy.
• Provide research and recommendations to ensure compliant payroll reporting.
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile payroll sub-ledger to general ledger.
• Perform other related duties as needed.

Position Description

To ensure accurate and timely pay to all employees with appropriate deductions and withholding in compliance with company policy, and federal, state, and IRS regulations.

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Administers all necessary steps to process a complete multi-state payroll cycle including data entry and data verification as well as balancing of time and attendance data.
• Communicates and assists with third party vendor processing of payroll.
• Assists with analyzing, auditing, and reconciling to ensure accurate payroll processing.
• Provides research and recommendations to ensure payroll reporting and payments are compliant with company policy, collective bargaining agreements, generally accepted accounting principles, and federal, state and IRS regulations for the company and its affiliates.
• Prepares journal entries and reconciles payroll sub-ledger reporting to general ledger.
• Perform other related assigned duties as necessary to complete the Primary Job Responsibilities as described above.

Minimum Requirements

• Position requires an associate's degree in accounting or a related field; FPC Fundamental Payroll Certification preferred; two years' experience in payroll, financial accounting, or financial reporting. Workday experience is preferred. Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.
• Position requires effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and problem solving skills and knowledge of automated payroll systems as well as knowledge of basic Microsoft Excel and Word functionality.
