Job summary

Salt Lake City School District is seeking an Accountant II - Payroll to own the district’s payroll cycle and supervise payroll staff. You will implement procedures, ensure data accuracy, and maintain internal controls in alignment with district and regulatory guidelines.

The role requires a strong background in accounting and payroll systems, with ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. Immediate start date with full-time schedule in Salt Lake City.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years accounting experience or Master’s with 3 years accounting experience
• Experience applying accounting principles to federal, state, and local tax codes/policies/regulations
• Experience using electronic payroll software to pay 100+ employees
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal)

Responsibilities

• Process payroll checks and withholdings for employees, taxes, and vendors; coordinate with HR Services
• Authorize supplemental payroll checks for special compensation
• Calculate pay for incoming/outgoing employees and contract variances
• Analyze financial data to assess payroll accounting and reporting
• Maintain internal controls and comply with district policies and laws
• Prepare required payroll documentation and audit trails
• Supervise payroll personnel and provide training
