Job summary

Courtyard.io is hiring a Director of Payments & Fraud Operations to own the end-to-end tradeoff between friction and loss. You will manage fraud strategy across the funnel, oversee vendors, and shape the roadmap to scale payments trust for rapid growth.

This remote-first role requires deep domain expertise and a hands-on, high-agency leadership style. You will collaborate with engineering, finance, and leadership to align policy with execution, drive vendor performance, and continuously optimize

Qualifications

• 10+ years in payments, fraud, risk, or trust & safety operations with ownership of fraud and chargeback outcomes at a high-growth consumer platform.
• Strong understanding of 3DS, chargeback codes, KYC/identity verification tradeoffs, and fraud-vs-conversion economics.
• Vendor management of processors, fraud providers, and KYC partners with roadmap influence.
• Excellent commercial/analytical instincts, able to reason in unit economics and act with incomplete data.
• High agency and calm under fire; proactive decision-making and playbook documentation.
• Collaborative cross-functional leadership aligning policy, engineering tooling, finance, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own policies and operations that prevent abuse while protecting legitimate users.
• Define verification, blocking, and unblocking rules; lead incident response; oversee account takeover prevention.
• Own fraud strategy across the customer funnel balancing loss, approvals, chargebacks, and friction; set risk thresholds; track metrics.
• Improve checkout conversion by optimizing authorization rates, declines, and payment method mix; partner with engineering on strategy.
