Job summary

The Payments Engineer at Hertz will design, build, test, and operate cloud-enabled payment systems across card-present and card-not-present channels. You will implement tokenization, fraud signaling, settlement, and reconciliation, and work with gateways like Adyen, CyberSource, Stripe, Braintree, Worldpay, or FIS.

Join a team that designs secure, scalable payment services, uses AWS/serverless tech, and manages Kubernetes clusters while collaborating with Product, QA, and Operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of software engineering with 2+ years on payments.
• Hands-on with at least one major payment gateway (Adyen, CyberSource, Stripe, Braintree, Worldpay, FIS).
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go; REST and event-driven APIs.
• Working knowledge of PCI DSS, tokenization and secure data handling.
• Experience with relational or distributed data stores and SQL.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong debugging and distributed systems skills; good communication.
• Experience in regulated environments (PCI, SOX) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy cloud-native payment applications and integrations.
• Implement integrations with payment gateways and processors such as Adyen, CyberSource, Stripe, Braintree, Worldpay, or FIS.
• Implement tokenization, vault interactions, and secure handling of cardholder data within PCI scope.
• Build and maintain APIs and event flows for authorization, capture, settlement, and dispute workflows.
• Improve transaction success rate, latency, and reliability across payment paths.
• Add observability with logs, metrics, traces, and alerts.
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident reviews.
• Write secure code aligned with PCI DSS and Hertz security standards.
• Develop serverless services using AWS and Kubernetes at scale; drive architecture improvements.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and Operations to translate requirements into implementations.
