Job summary

Seminole Hospital District is seeking an Insurance Payment Poster to accurately post insurance payments, adjustments, and denials for the hospital and clinics. The role ensures balanced accounts, timely follow-up and efficient revenue cycle operations.

The ideal candidate will post payments from ERA/EOBs, apply contractual adjustments, and reconcile batches, while maintaining documentation and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in medical payment posting, billing or bookkeeping preferred.
• Knowledge of EOBs, ERAs and contractual adjustments.
• Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid and commercial payments preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, math skills and problem solving.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
• Experience with EHR or patient accounting systems preferred.
• Payment integrity and reconciliation experience beneficial.
• Familiarity with HIPAA electronic 835 transactions is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Post insurance payments from ERA, EOBs, checks and EFTs.
• Apply contractual adjustments, deductibles, copayments and coinsurance as per remittance.
• Reconcile payment batches to remittance totals and funds received.
• Review remittance for underpayments, overpayments, denials and incorrect adjustments.
• Transfer patient responsibility and remaining balances to the correct account.
• Identify credit balances and potential refunds for review.
• Record payment reversals, recoupments, and corrected payments.
• Maintain clear account notes and payment documentation.
• Communicate with billing, collections and patient access staff to resolve issues.
• Protect patient confidentiality per HIPAA and policies.
• Meet productivity, accuracy and posting turnaround targets.

Summary:

The insurance payment poster accurately and promptly posts insurance payments, adjustments, and denials to patient accounts for the hospital and associated clinics. This position supports accurate account balances, timely follow-ups, and efficient revenue cycle operations.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Post insurance payments from electronic remittance advice (ERA), explanation of benefits (EOBs), checks, and electronic funds transfers (EFTs).
• Apply contractual adjustments, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance according to payer remittance information and facility policies.
• Reconcile payment batches to remittance totals and funds received, researching and resolving discrepancies.
• Review remittance information for underpayments, overpayments, denials, and incorrect adjustments; route issues to the appropriate staff for follow‑up.
• Transfer patient responsibility and remaining insurance balances to the appropriate account or payer.
• Identify credit balances and potential refunds for review and approval.
• Record payment reversals, recoupments, and corrected payments accurately.
• Maintain clear account notes and support payment documentation.
• Communicate with billing, collections, and patient access staff to resolve account issues.
• Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements and facility policies.
• Meet established productivity, accuracy, and posting turnaround expectations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous medical payment posting, billing, bookkeeping, or related experience preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance terminology, EOBs, ERAs, contractual adjustments, and patient responsibility.
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance payments preferred.
• Strong attention to detail basic math skills, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
• Experience using electronic health record or patient accounting systems preferred.
• Payment integrity and reconciliation
• Strong ability to interpret explanation of benefits (EOBs) and remittance advices (Ras)
• Familiarity with the HIPAA standard electronic (835) healthcare transaction is a plus
