Qualifications

• Two years of experience operating a paving screed or equivalent asphalt equipment.
• Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, grade control, and specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret project plans and grade stakes.

Responsibilities

• Operate the screed on an asphalt paver to produce a smooth mat.
• Control screed width, depth, slope, and grade to meet project specifications.
• Monitor material flow and adjust screed settings to maintain consistent paving quality.
• Work closely with the paver operator, paving foreman, and crew to ensure efficient paving operations.
• Inspect asphalt mat for thickness, texture, and overall quality throughout the paving process.
• Make necessary adjustments to maintain proper crown, cross-slope, and elevation.
• Assist with paver setup, calibration, and daily equipment inspections.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paving equipment.
• Follow project plans, grade stakes, and instructions from supervisors.
• Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
• Maintain awareness of surrounding equipment, traffic, and crew members while operating.

S&S Paving & Construction is seeking a skilled and dependable Paving Screed Operator to operate and control the screed on an asphalt paving machine during roadway, commercial, and municipal paving projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for achieving proper mat thickness, grade, slope, and smoothness while working closely with the paving crew to produce a high-quality finished product. This position requires experience with asphalt paving operations, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate the screed on an asphalt paver to produce a smooth, uniform asphalt mat.
• Control screed width, depth, slope, and grade to meet project specifications.
• Monitor material flow and adjust screed settings to maintain consistent paving quality.
• Work closely with the paver operator, paving foreman, and crew to ensure efficient paving operations.
• Inspect asphalt mat for thickness, texture, and overall quality throughout the paving process.
• Make necessary adjustments to maintain proper crown, cross-slope, and elevation.
• Assist with paver setup, calibration, and daily equipment inspections.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a paving screed or similar asphalt paving equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, grade control, and paving specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret project plans and grade stakes is preferred.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, dust, and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to climb on and off paving equipment safely.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and occasional night work as required.
• Outdoor roadway and construction environments.
• Exposure to moving heavy equipment, traffic, hot asphalt, loud noise, dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
• Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and work boots.
