Job summary

Steinway & Sons in Astoria, NY, seeks a Pattern Shop Supervisor to lead pattern making, tooling, and related fixtures for piano production. You will oversee design, fabrication, maintenance, and storage of patterns, templates, jigs, gauges, and tooling to meet engineering specs for standard and bespoke pianos.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in pattern making, tooling, woodworking, or manufacturing operations.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Experience in musical instrument manufacturing or precision woodworking preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily activities in the Pattern Shop to ensure tooling and pattern requirements are met.
• Manage fabrication, repair, modification, and maintenance of production patterns, templates, tooling, and fixtures.
• Ensure patterns are produced accurately per engineering drawings and specs.
• Coordinate priorities with Engineering, Product Development, Wood Shop, and Production.
• Train and mentor Pattern Shop personnel preserving traditional woodworking techniques.
• Develop and maintain tooling for piano components and prototypes.
• Support new product development and design changes; troubleshoot tooling issues.
• Maintain documentation and revision control; ensure a safe, organized work environment.
