Job summary

Kent District Library is seeking a flexible Circulation Clerk to support patron services across locations. You will check materials in/out, register patrons, handle fines, and assist with holds and inter-library loan requests.

You will also help with shelf maintenance, data entry for patron records, and reference assistance using the library’s databases and digital resources. Strong customer service and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous library or retail experience preferred.
• Basic clerical, computer and telephone skills.
• Knowledge of popular culture and genres in the library collection.
• Basic math skills for routine calculations.
• Working knowledge of KDL policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with general supervision and follow procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for staff and customers; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Leadership ability to guide less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

• Check in/out library materials and process new patrons.
• Handle fines, lost/damaged materials and card registrations.
• Maintain shelves and perform collection maintenance.
• Enter data for late/damaged/claims items and patron records.
• Assist patrons with searching and using library databases and digital resources.
• Provide reference and information services to patrons.
• Demonstrate and assist with eReaders and digital collections.
• Operate library equipment (copier, printer, POS) and basic troubleshooting.
• Assist with orders, supplies, and inter-library loan processes.
• Travel between KDL locations as needed.
