Job summary

The City of Tyler seeks a Circulation Technician for its library to assist patrons with checkout, renewals, holds, and account questions while maintaining accurate circulation records. This role contributes to a welcoming, patron-focused library environment.

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent, 1 year of customer service experience, and a valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean record. Ability to work a schedule including evenings and weekends is expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One year of customer service experience required; public library or cash-handling experience preferred.
• Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
• Experience of working with the public in a fast-paced environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with checking materials in and out, renewals, holds, library card registration, and account inquiries.
• Resolve routine patron concerns and refer complex issues to supervisor.
• Interpret and explain library policies, procedures, and services.
• Accurately process materials including check-in/out, renewals, holds, and fine collection.
• Retrieve materials from remote returns and ensure processing per procedures.
• Shelve, organize, and retrieve materials to maintain an orderly collection.
• Maintain accurate circulation records and statistics.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures and provide basic directional help at information desk.
