Job summary

City of Commerce Police Department seeks a Patrol Officer to perform police patrols, investigations, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities within the city. The role supports community safety, enforces laws, responds to emergencies, and prepares reports for court proceedings.

Responsibilities include patrol operations, crime prevention, accident responses, and collaboration with officers and city officials to ensure public safety and orderly city operations.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older at time of employment.
• Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license without record of suspension.
• Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years are not allowed.
• U.S. citizen; read and write English.
• Good moral character and temperate, industrious habits.
• Must meet department’s physical standards.
• High school diploma; completion of the basic law enforcement-training academy or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Patrol city streets, parks, and areas to preserve peace and enforce the law.
• Respond to emergency calls and investigate accidents, robberies, disturbances, and related incidents.
• Interrogate suspects, witnesses, and drivers; preserve evidence; arrest violators.
• Prepare reports and records and submit them to supervisors promptly.
• Undertake community-oriented police work and assist citizens with safety and security matters.
• Coordinate with other officers and departments as needed; share information with prosecutors.
