Job summary

The City of Cortez seeks a Patrol Officer to maintain public safety by enforcing laws and ordinances and responding to community needs. You’ll act professionally, document incidents clearly, and communicate effectively with the public and partner agencies.

Patrol duties include responding to calls, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, conducting investigations, and providing court testimony. You’ll use approved equipment and tactics safely, manage back-to-back calls, and help connect residents

Qualifications

• Certified Colorado Police Officer; valid Colorado driver’s license
• First Aid/CPR certified; proficient with firearms
• Certified in Intoxilizer, Radar, Nystagmus, pepper spray, and PPCT
• Strong oral and written communication; able to work under stress and shift schedules
• Good physical condition; no felony convictions
• Two-year degree (criminal justice/related) or HS/equivalent plus training sufficient for certification

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas and respond to calls for service
• Enforce criminal and traffic laws and City ordinances
• Conduct investigations, prepare accurate reports, and provide court testimony as needed
• Use approved equipment and tactics safely, including firearms and defensive tools
