East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Patrol Officer to support campus safety through community-oriented policing. You will be an active member of the University Police team working with the Chief of Police to protect students, staff, and visitors.

The role requires police experience, the ability to engage with students, and composure in stressful situations. Training shifts precede a 8:00 AM–4:00 PM schedule on a 5-week rotation, with occasional schedule flexibility to meet

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older and a United States citizen.
  • High School Diploma or GED; Act 120 certification or commissioned status.
  • Ability to complete firearms qualification requirements and Act 180 updates annually.
  • Knowledge of laws governing motor vehicle operation and safety in university settings.
  • Experience with emergency first-aid and CPR; ability to react calmly in emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and control traffic and parking on university grounds, issuing warnings and citations.
  • Provide safety and law enforcement for campus events and activities.
  • Transport persons and valuables using state-owned vehicles.
  • Investigate incidents, respond to calls, and cooperate with local authorities.
  • Utilize radio communications, perform administrative duties, and participate in training.

Job description

As thePatrol Officer, you will need to be comfortable skillfully assisting the ESU campus through community-oriented policing. You will be an active member of the University Policeteam and will work closely with the Chief of Policeto promote the safety and security of all campus community members. You will thrive in this role if you like combining yourlaw enforcementand interpersonal skills all while interacting with the student population enhancing their ESU experience. To be successful in this role, you must have previous police officer experience, connect professionally with university students to solve issues, along with remaining calm and alert in stressful situations.

Your training work schedule will cover 3 shifts: however, upon successful completion of training, your normal hours will be 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on a 5-week rotation. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Patrol Officer. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
  • Direct and control traffic along with parking on university grounds, enforcing vehicle laws by issuing warnings, parking tickets, citations for violations of university, and commonwealth traffic regulations.
  • Provides safety and Law Enforcement for extra-curricular, social, and recreational events and activities at this university. Practices safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries, and to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Transport by state-owned vehicles, persons to hospitals and university funds/valuables to proper locations.
  • Investigates suspected crimes, reports findings and arrests where Rules of Criminal Procedure require, following university arrest policy guidelines. Responds to calls, including fire, bomb threat or any other university emergency.
  • Investigates accidents involving persons or property, reporting same and pursuing appropriate course of action on university grounds.
  • Cooperates and works with local, state and other police authorities, as needed. Testifies in court or legal proceedings, as necessary.
  • Utilizes radio communications equipment, accomplishes routine administrative duties and performs other related work as required.
  • Administrative duties include reports, paperwork, incident write-ups, etc. Participates in education and training courses, as requested.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
  • Be 18 years or older and a citizen of the United States.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency.
  • Act 120 certification or active commissioned police officer status. One year of police experience and formal training in the provisions of basic police services or any equivalent experience or training.
  • The ability to successfully complete the university Firearms Qualification Requirements at required intervals.
  • Must satisfactorily complete Act 180 updates annually.
  • The ability to have & maintain access to the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN).
  • Possession andMaintenance of a valid motor vehicle operator's license with the ability to operate state vehicles.
  • Ability to meet such qualifications regarding strength, agility, and health as may be required.
  • Knowledge of commonwealth laws, rules and regulations governing motor vehicle operation and personal conduct for employees or visitors at commonwealth facilities.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions appropriate to responsibilities assigned as a law enforcement officer.
  • Knowledge of and skill in practicing emergency first-aid and CPR techniques.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper courses of action.
  • Ability to enforce laws firmly, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Some knowledge of group behavior.
  • Skill in the use and care of offensive and defensive weapons.
  • Applicant must possess these skills, knowledge, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, overtime and/or any shift.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
