Job summary

The City of Stevens Point is seeking sworn law enforcement officers to protect life and property, enforce laws, and provide public safety services to the community. Applicants certified or certifiable as police officers are preferred, with lateral transfer considered based on experience and education.

Starting after background checks, positions involve patrolling, enforcing traffic laws, investigating crimes, preparing reports, and presenting cases.

Qualifications

• Age 18 or older.
• US citizen.
• Ability to communicate in English clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Must possess a valid driver's license without restrictions.
• Residency required in accordance with labor agreements.
• Must be certified or certifiable as a Police Officer in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

• Patrol an assigned sector of the City on foot or by conveyance.
• Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, warnings or other action.
• Direct traffic; investigate traffic accidents and road obstructions.
• Prepare reports and cases for prosecutors; present testimony.
• Conduct interviews and interrogations; transport persons in custody.
• Represent the Department at public functions; assist coworkers.
