Job summary

Yellowstone County Sheriff's Department in Montana seeks a Deputy Sheriff (Patrol) to protect life and property, enforce laws, and handle potentially volatile situations with calm, confident action. The role requires POST certification, a GED or higher, and a background check.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Peace Officer POST Certification; Pre-service or MTLETC.
• Two years public-contact work experience required.
• Associate’s degree can substitute two years of work experience.
• Citizen of the United States; background checks and exams.
• Post-employment tests may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide information and assistance to motorists, pedestrians and the public.
• Perform traffic enforcement and investigate crashes; issue warnings and citations.
• Manage an assigned area to prevent crime and accidents.
• Detain individuals, administer Miranda warnings, transport suspects, and complete paperwork.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice / related field can replace two years of experience
