Primary Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned geographic areas
- Respond to crimes in progress and emergency calls
- Investigate criminal activity and motor vehicle accidents
- Transport prisoners safely and securely
- Testify in court when necessary
- Address juvenile, neighborhood, and domestic complaints
- Serve warrants and conduct crisis intervention
- Interview complainants and witnesses
- Investigate natural and unnatural deaths
- Complete thorough, accurate reports and documentation
- Deputies must be able to use reasonable force when required and handle potentially volatile or dangerous situations calmly, confidently, and effectively.
Required Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age at the time of application
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Certified Peace Officer recognized by the State of Louisiana (POST)
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years of prior law enforcement experience
Additional Requirements
- Proficient typing and computer skills
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret various documents
- Strong observational and memory skills
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively
- Willingness to learn new skills and stay current with changes
Physical Requirements
This position requires physical agility, strength, and coordination, including the ability to:
run, walk, jump, sit, bend, climb, crawl, reach, pull, twist, and maintain strong hand‑eye coordination and grip strength.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary determined by agency salary table with a minimum hourly rate of $18.32
- Additional consideration for postsecondary education and prior law enforcement experience
