Job summary

East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office (EBRSO) is seeking qualified applicants for a deputy sheriff role. The position involves patrolling assigned areas, stopping violators, responding to accidents, and conducting traffic and criminal investigations. Holders of POST certification or related education are preferred.

The job requires passing background checks, fitness testing, and polygraph exams. Starting pay is competitive with full benefits including health, dental, life, and retirement

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Citizen of the United States or a permanent resident.
• Have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent recognized by the State of Louisiana.
• Must have one of: POST certified officer with armed duty; Louisiana POST Certification; 1 year of active military duty; Bachelor's degree; 80+ semester hours.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned area and enforce laws.
• Respond to accidents and provide first aid until paramedics arrive.
• Investigate traffic, criminal and other incidents.
• Prepare detailed, well-written reports for court.
• Testify in court in response to subpoenas.

• Testify in court in response to subpoenas

Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts

Qualifications

• At least 21 years old
• Citizen of the United States or a permanent resident
• Have a minimum of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency recognized by the State of Louisiana
• Must have one of the following
  • at least one year of experience as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified law enforcement officer in a full-time position, whose job duties included armed duty with the power of arrest; or
  • Louisiana Law Enforcement POST Certification; or
  • 1 year of continuous active duty in the military; or
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; or
  • 80+ semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university in a Bachelor's Degree program

Compensation And Benefits

• $46,755 starting annual salary

• Retirement Plan -- Louisiana Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund is a defined benefit plan that allows employee contributions on a pre-tax basis. Employees contribute 10.25 % of their salaries to the retirement plan. Members do not pay social security (FICA) tax but they do pay Medicare tax.
• Louisiana Deferred Compensation Plan is a voluntary retirement saving vehicle. Employees may choose to contribute tax-free dollars to save for retirement. The plan is similar to a 401(k) plan offered in private industry, but there is no employer match for employee contributions. It is a 457 plan.

Salary: $21.40 - $37.07 per hour
