Job summary

Mercy Medical Center is seeking a dedicated transporter to support patient flow and safety within a hospital setting. The role involves moving patients, equipment, and records, while ensuring compliance with policy and infection-control guidelines.

The transporter will assist with transfers, provide directions to visitors, and maintain a clean, well-stocked environment. Training and competency in patient handling are required, with OSHA and Joint Commission standards followed.

Qualifications

• Medical terminology preferred.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three months of hire.
• Successful completion of transporter training and competencies.
• Must be 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients and families from pickup to receiving department or discharge.
• Prepares for and carries out transport of patients, belongings, equipment and records.
• Transfers patients to/from cart/bed/wheelchair using proper equipment; assists with lifts as requested.
• Documents work activities according to policy.
• Responds to patient requests and follows policy.
• Observes and reports pertinent patient and family information to clinical/testing site personnel to promote patient safety.
• Provides information and directions to visitors, patients and staff as needed.
• Cleans and stores equipment properly.
• Maintains a clean, well stocked and orderly environment.
• Complies with OSHA/The Joint Commission, infection control, and other guidelines.
• Reports safety or environment issues to the appropriate department or Safety Officer.
• Utilizes software, pagers, phones and other resources to respond to requests for service.
