Job summary

Michigan Medicine seeks a Transportation staff member to support patient transfers, greet families, and ensure safe movement of patients and charts between units and vehicles. This role requires a high school diploma and physical stamina for lifting and moving patients.

Standard schedule is 40 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, with hybrid or mobile/remote work options at the department's discretion. Applicants must submit a resume; background checks apply and AFSCME union terms govern wages

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.
  • Must be able to read and write English.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the patient and/or nursing with the physical transfer of the patient onto the vehicle and transport patient to the appointment.
  • Greet the patient by name, identify the patient by armband, and introduce themselves to the parents, patient and nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Transport bodies of deceased patients to the Morgue as required.

Responsibilities*

Transportation staff will arrive at the unit with the transport vehicle (i.e. stretcher or wheelchair) specified at the time of request, stop at the Nursing station to retrieve chart and/or card, report to patient room, greet the patient by name, identify the patient by armband, introduce themselves to the parents, patient and nursing staff as appropriate. Assist the patient and/or nursing with the physical transfer of the patient onto the vehicle and transport patient to the appointment. Bodies of deceased patients will be transported to the Morgue by transport personnel.

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including: pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc. Must be able to read and write English.

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Standard hours: 40
Work days: Sunday - Thursday
Shift start/end times: 9:00am - 5:30pm

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
