Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a Patient Transporter to move patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds, while ensuring comfort and safety. You will also transport patient belongings, supplies, and equipment across hospital units, maintaining strict patient confidentiality.

This role requires basic safety awareness, strong communication, and reliable teamwork for coordinating with clinical staff.

Qualifications

• No Formal Education.
• No prior experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification must be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by department leader.

Responsibilities

• Lift and transport patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers or beds using proper body mechanics.
• Transport patients and other items such as belongings, specimens, carts and equipment to destinations.
• Notify clinical staff immediately about changes in patient condition or equipment issues.
• Verify patient identification by matching printed ride ticket with wristband.
• Use electronic software to track assignment status (initiated, completed, delayed, cancelled).
• Collect and return equipment; disinfect and inspect transport gear; report repairs as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Collect patient equipment from soiled utility rooms when required.
• Pickup and deliver patient medications, excluding controlled substances.
