University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Patient Services Representative for UPMC Vision Institute - Oakland

Location: 203 Lothrop Street, 6th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

This position works Monday through Friday during daylight hours, with rotating shifts between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and requires 25% travel to satellite locations including Shadyside, Forbes, Mercy, St. Margaret’s, Monroeville, Wexford, Bethel Park, and Natrona Heights for coverage as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist patients in navigating the healthcare system and provide follow-up to ensure continuity of care.
  • Perform administrative duties such as scanning medical records and faxing.
  • Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk based on their preference.
  • Schedule or connect patients to ancillary services at checkout.
  • Understand and apply principles of service recovery to meet patient expectations.
  • Educate patients about financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources as needed.
  • Obtain signatures for consent following HIPAA regulations.
  • Verify insurance benefits via online systems or phone inquiries.
  • Promote and assist with MyUPMC portal registration.
  • Collect copayments and other payments at the point of service.
  • Provide a warm greeting to all patients.
  • Register patients in the Biometrics program and explain its benefits.
  • Update patient registration information at checkout.
  • Manage phone calls and direct them appropriately.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments during checkout.
