Independence Plus is expanding in all our service areas and has an immediate opening for a Patient Services Representative to work out of our Oak Brook, IL (DuPage County) office.

The Patient Services Representative is primarily responsible for providing excellent attention and coordination for Home Medical Equipment (HME) clients, payers, and referral sources.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

  1. Provides excellent patient services
  2. Provides order intake via phone/fax
  3. Verifies insurance, confirms orders, provides data entry for new patients
  4. Completes Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMNs)
  5. Completes prior approvals and authorizations
  6. Contacts patients for re-orders
  7. Completes repair orders
  8. Maintains open communication with payers, referral sources, patients, and all administrative staff
  9. Ensures that all files are maintained according to IPI policies and reports all discrepancies to immediate supervisor
  10. Stays informed regarding changes in billing guidelines for all payer sources and shares information with appropriate IPI personnel
  11. Researches and recommends improvements in general procedures (i.e., billing, items purchased, etc.) to streamline processes and minimize unneeded expenses
  12. Purchasing and receiving duties, as needed
  13. Promotes home nursing and respiratory / HME referrals in the healthcare community
  14. Complies with agency, state, federal, and CHAP policies and procedures

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred or industry experience
  2. Experience in HME billing including insurance verification, data entry skills
  3. Must exercise good working knowledge of computer applications, word processing, spreadsheets, email, and other software programs as needed for assisting in Medical Billing
  4. Excellent computer skills; experience with Brightree preferred
  5. Familiarity with medical coding
  6. Demonstrates good communication and teamwork both within and outside the department
  7. Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred
