Job summary

The University of New England College of Dental Medicine (UNE CDM) invites applications for a Patient Services Representative at the Oral Health Center (OHC) in Portland, ME. This role is dedicated to delivering a welcoming, patient-centered experience and supporting accurate registration, insurance verification, and payments at the front desk.

As a full-time team member, you will help manage appointments, collect payments, and triage urgent care needs while upholding patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients at the Oral Health Center.
  • Register new patients and update demographics and insurance information.
  • Verify insurance coverage and collect payments.
  • Coordinate appointment check-in/out and patient scheduling.
  • Support patient flow and triage urgent oral health needs.
  • Arrange interpreter services and handle referrals as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and assist with general office duties.

The University of New England College of Dental Medicine ( UNE CDM ) is seeking a Patient Services Representative to join our Oral Health Center ( OHC ). The OHC Patient Services Representative greets and welcomes patients seeking care at our Oral Health Center. As the first point of contact for our patients, the OHC Patient Services Representative plays an important role in ensuring that our patients are provided with an overall positive experience each time they visit the OHC .

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with an anticipated pay rate of $19.92 per hour.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Patient Services, the OHC Patient Services Representative demonstrates a strong customer focus while representing the core values of the UNE CDM . The person in this role supports the academic mission of the CDM by:
  • Providing a positive, patient-centric customer service experience that supports patient flow into and throughout the Oral Health Center.
  • Carefully interviewing and accurately registering new patients in the clinic information system.
  • Entering and updating patient information, including demographics, insurance, and scheduling records, to ensure accurate electronic patient records.
  • Managing appointment check-in and appointment check-out.
  • Verifying insurance coverage.
  • Verifying methods of payment and collecting payments.
  • Providing general triage related to the urgency of oral health care needs.
  • Arranging for patient interpreter services.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing referrals for care.
  • Supporting the academic success of our students.
  • Ensuring confidentiality related to all patient records and interactions.
  • Performing general office duties such as answering telephones, emailing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
  • Supporting compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies by capturing signatures required on patient consents, and the maintenance of records related to guardianship, power of attorney, and the privacy and release of patient health records.
  • Being flexible and adaptive to the needs of the organization.
