Job summary

Avera Brookings Clinic is seeking a front desk receptionist to welcome patients, check them in, verify demographics and collect service payments. You will confirm insurance details, obtain necessary authorizations, and sign consent forms while ensuring accurate data entry into the patient record.

You will coordinate scheduling, respond to calls and messages, and help guide patients to appropriate services, contributing to a smooth, patient-centered experience in a busy clinic environment.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED with related experience acceptable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Comfort with handling demographics, insurance data and payments.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and register them; verify demographics and collect payments.
  • Verify insurance, process authorizations, and obtain consent forms as needed.
  • Scan documents into the patient record and route inquiries to appropriate departments.
  • Manage appointment scheduling and coordinate patient flow with nursing and physicians.

Location: Avera Brookings Clinic a Department of Brookings Health System Worker Type: Regular Work Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $18.00 - $23.25

Position Highlights

This position is located in our Brookings office Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM; Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 PM You Belong at Avera Be part of a multidisciplinary team built with compassion and the goal of Moving Health Forward for you and our patients. Work where you matter.

A Brief Overview

Works in the various reception areas throughout the Clinic and is responsible for helping the patients to access the Clinic's system for care.

What you will do

Welcomes patients, checking them in and completing registration which includes verifying demographics, insurance and collection of any service payments. Responsible for insurance verifications, authorizations and getting consent and waiver forms signed as appropriate. Responsible for scanning all pertinent information into the patient’s record. Answers and addresses calls, messages and/or faxes, routing them to appropriate individuals/departments if needed. Maintains computer appointment scheduling and follows office scheduling policies/parameters. Expedites delivery of care by coordinating nurse, physician, and patient time. Acts as public relations agent for the physicians by serving the patients in a friendly, efficient manner. Directs patients to ancillary services as needed.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience

High School or GED Equivalent or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
