Job summary

Avera St. Mary's in Pierre, SD is seeking a front desk/registration specialist to guide patients through check-in and access to care. You will verify demographics and insurance, collect service payments, and scan documents into the chart.

This role supports scheduling and routing inquiries, coordinating with nurses and physicians, and representing the clinic with hospitality. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent; 1–3 months related experience.
  • Ability to verify demographics, insurance and collect payments.
  • Strong communication and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients, checks them in, and completes registration.
  • Verifies insurance, obtains authorizations and signed forms.
  • Scans pertinent information into the patient’s record.
  • Answers calls and routes to appropriate departments.
  • Maintains scheduling and adheres to office policies.
  • Coordinates patient flow to expedite care and serve patients.
  • Represents physicians as a friendly, efficient public relations agent.

Work Shift: Primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays (United States of America)

Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $18.00 - $23.25

A Brief Overview

Works in the various reception areas throughout the Clinic and is responsible for helping the patients to access the Clinic's system for care.

What you will do
  • Welcomes patients, checking them in and completing registration which includes verifying demographics, insurance and collection of any service payments.
  • Responsible for insurance verifications, authorizations and getting consent and waiver forms signed as appropriate.
  • Responsible for scanning all pertinent information into the patient’s record.
  • Answers and addresses calls, messages and/or faxes, routing them to appropriate individuals/departments if needed.
  • Maintains computer appointment scheduling and follows office scheduling policies/parameters.
  • Expedites delivery of care by coordinating nurse, physician, and patient time.
  • Acts as public relations agent for the physicians by serving the patients in a friendly, efficient manner.
  • Directs patients to ancillary services as needed.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience

High School or GED Equivalent or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
