Job summary

Care New England in Providence, RI is seeking a Patient Services Assistant to support nursing staff by performing phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic patient care, including feeding, bathing, and transport.

Under supervision of a professional nurse, you will collect specimens, maintain records, and collaborate with the health care team while upholding safety, privacy, and patient comfort.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent and completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Training program and phlebotomy course.
• Must maintain a current RI CNA license and CPR certification.
• Good telephone, interpersonal and writing skills essential, along with demonstrated ability to accurately relate technical information.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and skin punctures for adults and heel-sticks for newborns; collects specimens and maintains records.
• Prepares and performs EKG tracings and basic patient care tasks under supervision of a nurse.
• Assists with transporting patients, specimens, and equipment; supports unit-based escorts and maintains supplies.

Job Summary

The Patient Services Assistant performs nursing, phlebotomy and patient care tasks under the general supervision of a professional nurse. Collects and processes blood and other laboratory specimens, performs EKG tracings, and maintains related records. Communicates and collaborates with other health careteam members while attending to personal needs, safety, and comfort of patients.
Performs a variety of other duties to assist staff, such as transporting patients and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrates competency in performing clinical care and assessing appropriatebehavior of newborns and adults.
Provides personal care assistance to infants and adults consistent with the specific standards of care; providesbasic teaching to adult patients, including bathing, dressing, and feeding of infants; assists with technical procedures;
Obtains blood specimens on adults by performing venipunctures and skin punctures oninpatients and outpatients and obtains heel-sticks on newborns in normal nursery.
Performs specimen collection and record keeping associated with phlebotomy as well as reports results.
Performs electrocardiograms on adults.
Provides support for unit-based escorts/transports of patients, specimens, supplies andequipment and otherresources.
Prepares/checks equipment and supplies and utilizes resources and materials in a safe and efficient manner.
Organizes work, communicates changes, sets priorities in collaboration with staff nurse and/or Nurse Manager-Designee based on patient care needs and unit activity.
Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care team.
Supports unit-based Quality Assurance activities and maintains hospital and departmental philosophy/policies/procedures, objectives, clinical care standards, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy and responds in an appropriate and courteous mannerto verbal and non-verbal needs of patients, family and visitors, and hospital personnel.
Integrates service excellence standards in all day-to-day activities and communications with customers and responds to their feedback by direct action and/or communications with management staff.
Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit-care data.
Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent and completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Training program and phlebotomy course required. Must maintain a current R. I. Department of Health CNA license and CPR certification, and must hold certificate of completion of phlebotomy training program. Good telephone, interpersonal andwriting skills essential, along with demonstrated ability to accurately relate technicalinformation. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be proficient in the English language.
