Job summary

Kent Hospital is seeking a phlebotomist to perform diverse blood collection procedures across age groups and ensure accurate patient/testing information in the hospital system. You will process specimens, manage orders, and provide timely results to providers, contributing to quality patient care.

Applicants should have a high school diploma and phlebotomy certification, with at least six months of related experience. This is an on-site position within Care New England Health System.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain blood samples by venipuncture, finger stick, and heel sticks for all ages using aseptic technique.
  • Enter patient demographics and insurance information into the hospital system and verify details.
  • Process and prepare specimens for testing while ensuring specimen integrity and timely results.
  • Order tests in computer system and communicate questions to physicians as needed.
  • Maintain phlebotomy workspace and inventory to minimize downtime and ensure continuous service.
  • Assist with training new staff and support assigned locations as needed.

Responsible for performing all forms of phlebotomy procedures including registration on any age level, process specimens to ensure stability, perform order entry procedures to ensure accuracy of patient/testing information, and provide all laboratory results to providers.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Obtain blood samples by performing venipunctures, finger sticks and heel sticks on any age level. Use aseptic techniques and follow established procedures.
  • Enter all patient information into the correct hospital system, verifying patient demographics, updating and verifying all patient insurance, and administering ABNs as needed.
  • Organize and distribute workload in phlebotomy, including routine, time specific or stat orders, to ensure timely results to provider
  • Order tests in computer and if needed contact the physician on questions relating to test requests.
  • File/Scan scripts and insurance information and prepare reports for delivery to Doctor’s office if needed.
  • Prepare samples for courier pickup and/or deliver samples, to the appropriate department to ensure specimen integrity.
  • Maintain a proper inventory of supplies needed in order to provide continuous service, minimizing downtime.
  • Clean and maintain phlebotomy work areas, carts, etc. utilizing established procedures.
  • Assist with the training of new employees.
  • Perform phlebotomy responsibilities at assigned location(s) determined by the manager to meet the needs of the department
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned
Requirements

A high school diploma and a minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. All employees hired during or after 2012 must have Phlebotomy certification.
