Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a motivated Financial Counselor/Registration specialist to support pre-registration for inpatients and outpatients. You will gather demographic, financial, and clinical information to secure financial clearance before service dates.

You will verify insurance eligibility, collect details for auto and workers’ compensation registrations, and communicate any financial responsibilities to patients.

Responsibilities

• Conducts Pre-Registration tasks for specified inpatients and outpatients prior to their date of service
• Collects demographic, financial, and clinical information necessary for financial clearance of scheduled patients
• Obtains consent for treatments and authorizations as necessary
• Verifies the validity of insurance coverage via eligibility tools
• Collects the appropriate information for auto and worker’s compensation registrations
• Notifies patient of financial liabilities as determined by insurance benefits
• Takes an active role in the collection of patient payments
• Posts collected payments in system of record
• Provides Financial Counselor contact information to patients qualifying for state-sponsored financial assistance
• Obtains authorization, pre-certification, referral, and/or notification as necessary

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One (1) year of experience in customer service setting, hospital registration, medical office, insurance, etc.
• Computer literacy required including familiarity with word documents, Excel spreadsheets, email applications and be able to learn new applications
• Strong customer service skills including excellent interpersonal and telephone skills
• Experience using computer-based, patient registration systems
• Thorough understanding of private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid programs
• Knowledge of medical terminology
