Job Summary

The Patient Services Representative (PSR) is responsible for completing patient registration duties including collecting and validating accurate patient demographic and insurance information, obtaining pre-certification or authorization as required, and entering all necessary information into Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC) ADT system. The PSR informs patients of their estimated liability, collects patient liabilities, identifies patients needing financial assistance, and refers them to financial counseling as necessary. This position requires multi-tasking, effective problem solving, and fostering positive relationships with patients to provide quality service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred experience in patient access, insurance verification, billing, or as a certified medical assistant.

Essential Functions

• Greet patients and monitor patient flow for efficient and courteous care.
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information.
• Complete registration, verify and update information as needed.
• Verify insurance benefits, calculate and collect out-of-pocket costs, and request balances.
• Follow financial clearance policies and refer patients to financial counseling when needed.
• Perform visit closure tasks, including scheduling follow-ups and collecting additional responsibilities.
• Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payer policies, and current insurance plans.
• Communicate proactively about customer service and process improvements.
• Meet productivity and accuracy standards, and maintain excellent relations with patients and staff.

• Ability to analyze issues, understand regulations, and articulate explanations.
• Mathematical aptitude, effective communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and insurance processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ADT software.
• Ability to handle sensitive information and work independently in high-stress environments.

Work Environment

Normal office environment, mostly sitting, occasional lifting up to 10 lbs., operating necessary equipment.
