Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Patient Safety Assistant in Massachusetts to monitor patients and respond to safety needs within a clinical unit. The role emphasizes vigilant observation, communication with nurses, and adherence to safety protocols.

You will participate in rounding, transport patients as needed, and support efforts in environmental safety while documenting care and reporting behavioral changes to the RN.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or enrollment in High School Health Sciences program.
• 0–1 year of experience in patient safety or observation settings.
• Basic Life Support current certification required within 3 months of hire.
• Completes hospital-approved de-escalation training during unit-based orientation.

Responsibilities

• Direct and continuous observation of patient at a distance no greater than arm's length from patient.
• Participates in patient rounding as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Ensures environmental safety for patient.
• Answers call lights and ensures patient care issues are directed to the Registered Nurse.
• Transports patients within the department and to in-hospital locations as needed.
• Completes patient safety sitter competency and all required documentation for patient care.
• Communicates any changes in patient behavior to the Registered Nurse.
• Involved with quality improvement studies and activities specific to the unit.
