Job summary

Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital is seeking a Patient Safety Attendant to provide vigilant observation and compassionate care to assigned patients. You will work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, maintaining safety, assisting with meals and activities, and ensuring a clean clinical environment.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, CPR certification, and BHU-specific HWC or NCI certifications as applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR certification (HeartSaver CPR) is required.
• Handle with Care (HWC) certification is required only for the inpatient Behavioral Health Unit (BHU).
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification is required for all units except BHU.

Responsibilities

• Performs vigilant increased visual observation or continuous visual observation as ordered for the patient.
• Receives report from the RN and previous Patient Safety Attendant and gives report to the RN and oncoming Patient Safety Attendant before leaving.
• Maintains a clean and safe patient care environment.
• Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests as appropriate to the patient.
• Provides diversionary activities such as reading aloud to the patient.
• Assists the patient with nutrition needs under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Accompanies the patient to diagnostic testing and procedures and maintains observation of the patient during tests or procedures.
• Never leaves the patient alone unless instructed to by the nurse (Baker and Marchman Act patients).
• Observes for changes in patient behaviors or actions and reports them to the RN.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable laws.
• Remains awake and alert at all times and refrains from distractions.

Education
