Job summary

Baptist Health seeks a Patient Registration Specialist to manage pre-registration and registration, payer verification, referrals to financial counseling, and at‑point‑of‑service collections. You will ensure accurate demographic data, verify benefits, and coordinate COB to determine patient responsibility, while complying with HIPAA and EMTALA.

Responsibilities

• Handle pre-registration, registration, payer identification and verification.
• Refer patients to financial counseling as needed.
• Manage point-of-service collections and ensure data accuracy in patient records.
• Verify benefits eligibility and coordination of benefits.
• Determine and collect patient financial responsibility at point of service.
• Understand regulatory requirements (HIPAA, EMTALA, Medicare notices).
• Perform additional duties within scope as assigned.

Summary

The Patient Registration Specialist shall be responsible for pre-registration, registration, payer identification and verification, referral to financial counseling, and point of service collections. The Specialist shal be responsible to ensure that data gathered and entered to the computer system(s) of patient demographic and benefit information is accurate. The Specialist shall verify benefits eligibility and limitations, coordination of benefits, as well as to determine and collect the patient’s financial responsibility at the point of service. Additionally, the Specialist shall have an understanding of regulatory requirements (medical necessity determination, Medicare Secondary Payer completion and coordination of benefits, Important Message from Medicare issuance and signage, HIPAA, and EMTALA). This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.

Education / Experience

High school graduate or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in healthcare or business-related field preferred. Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) desirable.
