The role focuses on greeting patients and visitors, performing registration functions, collecting copays/deductibles, and ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations while providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced healthcare

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required and communication skills in English.
  • Experience with patient access or registration is a plus.
  • Ability to collect and explain financial responsibility and initial payments.
  • Comfort with multiple hospital systems and fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors and patients, answer inquiries, and direct to appropriate staff.
  • Perform on-site patient access registration and collect co-pays and deductibles.
  • Identify self-pay balances and help reduce AR and bad debt through upfront collection.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and regulatory requirements while ensuring patient safety and service quality.

The University of Miami UHealth - department of Patient Access at the UHealth campus in downtown Miami has exciting opportunities for Patient Access Representatives (Patient Registration Representatives) to work onsite at UHealth Deerfield Beach.

JOB SUMMARY

The Patient Access Representative projects a professional and welcoming demeanor and welcomes visitors (i.e., vendors, customers, patients, staff, students etc.) to the department by promptly greeting them, in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring their inquiries appropriately.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as Patient Advocate and Service Ambassador by providing a favorable first impression and proactive attention to internal and external customers in order to meet or exceed expectations, address concerns, and optimize experience.Perform all on-site patient access registration related functions promptly without compromising patient safety, quality, service levels, and reimbursement.Comply and abide with all established UHealth policies and procedures related to Patient Access and State/ Federal regulations.Identify and collect patient's self-pay responsibility including co-pays, deductibles, co-insurances, self- pay discount rates, global packages, and previous outstanding balances for both technical and professional components in POS 11 and 22 clinics thereby playing a key role in reducing AR, Bad Debt, and Collection Costs by collecting patient's financial responsibility upfront.Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental needs.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all- inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

CORE REQUIREMENTS
  • Patient Access Associate: High School Diploma required
  • Patient Access Representative 1: High School Diploma required and one (1) year of relevant experience required
  • Patient Access Representative 2: High School Diploma required and two (2) years of relevant experience required
  • Patient Access Representative 3: High School Diploma required and three (3) years of relevant experience required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Creole, English/French, English/Arabic) a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Must possess excellent, critical thinking, analytical, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent mathematical and cash management skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability to work as an integral team member under minimal supervision, in a fast-paced, complex and highly stressful environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, co-workers, other departments and patients of all ages, and from across a broad range of cultural and social economic backgrounds.
  • Computer literate and ability to use multiple systems and acquire proficiency in the following electronic systems: UChart Cadence/Prelude/Enterprise Billing, Passport HealthWorks Compliance Checker, Availity, RIS-PACS, CaneCare, UMCare, Intellidose, MCSL, Experian and all online verification systems used by contracted payors.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
