Mercyhealth Patient Registrars are responsible for patient registration duties at Mercyhealth Hospital locations. They greet patients and family members, assist with questions, and ensure accurate registration in the electronic medical record. This role is fast-paced and requires confidence with technology and typing skills. Some shifts are in the Emergency Department, where staff may encounter serious injuries or illnesses. This position involves weekend and holiday rotations.

Responsibilities

The role includes engaging positively with patients, participating in team activities, providing training to new staff, and managing registration processes efficiently. Key duties involve patient identification, data entry, insurance verification, collection of payments, coordination of patient movements, and communication with patients and staff. The role also requires adherence to healthcare regulations and effective problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 1-2 years of customer service experience required
• Knowledge of third-party payors and medical terminology preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Self-starter with positive attitude and urgency
• Proficiency with computer systems, navigation, typing, and data entry
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• EPIC system knowledge is preferred but not required

Physical Demands

Medium work exerting 10-25 lbs. frequently and 25-60 lbs. occasionally. Requires sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and other physical activities. Visual and manual dexterity skills are necessary.
