Mercyhealth Patient Registrars are responsible for patient registration duties at Mercyhealth Hospital locations. They greet patients and family members, assist with questions, and ensure accurate registration in the electronic medical record. This role requires confidence with technology and typing, but no prior healthcare experience is necessary. Shifts may include Emergency Department settings, requiring readiness to see serious injuries and illnesses. The position involves weekend and holiday rotations.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Engage positively with patients, visitors, and staff, demonstrating friendliness and professionalism.
  • Participate in team activities, quality improvement, and training.
  • Provide shadowing and training to new team members.
  • Handle highly emotional and demanding situations with good judgment.
  • Assist with patient check-in, triage, and emergency assessments.
  • Verify patient identity, insurance, and demographic information accurately.
  • Collect payments, co-pays, and pre-payments as applicable.
  • Coordinate patient movement and provide updates to patients and staff.
  • Support hospital operations during downtime or emergencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to healthcare regulations.
  • Perform light cleaning and ensure a welcoming environment.
  • Complete educational requirements and other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-2 years of customer service experience required.
  • Knowledge of third-party payors and medical terminology is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and sense of urgency.
  • Proficient in computer navigation, typing, and data entry.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Demands

Medium work exerting 10-25 lbs. frequently and 25-60 lbs. occasionally. Requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and manual dexterity. Vision and hearing abilities include close, color, and distance vision, and the ability to operate equipment.
