Mercyhealth Patient Registrars are responsible for patient registration duties at Mercyhealth Hospital locations. They greet patients and family members, assist with questions, and ensure accurate registration in the electronic medical record. This role involves fast-paced work, including managing patient check-ins, verifying insurance, collecting payments, and collaborating with hospital staff. It requires confidence with technology, EPIC, and handling high-stress situations, especially in emergency settings. The position includes weekend and holiday rotations.

Responsibilities

Key duties include engaging positively with patients, participating in quality improvement, using good judgment in emotional situations, managing patient check-ins, verifying information, collecting payments, coordinating patient movements, and maintaining professionalism under pressure. The role also involves communication with insurance providers, assisting with documentation, and supporting hospital operations and patient flow.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years customer service experience
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing, medical terminology, and third-party payors
  • Preferred: 1-year hospital registration experience
  • Certification in healthcare revenue cycle (Epic, HFMA, etc.) within 6 months
  • Skills: computer proficiency, communication, problem-solving, EPIC knowledge, teamwork
Physical Demands

Medium work exerting 10-25 lbs frequently and 25-60 lbs occasionally, with frequent sitting, handling, reaching, and occasional standing, walking, and manual dexterity requirements.
