Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is seeking a Neurosurgery Patient Navigator to guide patients through the healthcare system from diagnosis to discharge. The RN navigator will coordinate care with the Neurosurgery team, advocate for patients, and participate in quality improvement activities.

The role requires strong interpersonal and nursing assessment skills, autonomy, and the ability to manage complex workflows in a fast-paced setting. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Three years of direct patient care experience in an acute care setting.
  • Previous case management experience or related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients navigating the healthcare system to obtain timely care.
  • Coordinate patient care with Neurosurgery clinic team from diagnosis through discharge.
  • Act as patient advocate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Assist management in developing or implementing new department programs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Summary

The Neurosurgery Patient Navigator is a member of the healthcare team and assists patients with \"navigating\" through the healthcare system to obtain timely care. The RN Patient Navigators help coordinate patient care, in conjunction with Neurosurgery clinic team from time of diagnosis through discharge. The RN Patient Navigator is a patient advocate who will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary and medical teams to deliver quality patient care. Monitors patient outcomes, and participates in quality improvement activities. Works alongside management staff to implement and develop established or new programs related to department efficiency and cost-effective program implementation.


Work Experience

Three years of direct patient care experience in an acute care setting. Previous case management experience or related experience is preferred.


License/Registration/Certification

Current Texas or compact RN license required.


Current CPR


Education

Education and Training: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, as evidenced by the capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in interactions with physicians, payers, and patients/families.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

  • Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
