The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Texas is seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker to support patient meals and nutrition services. You will handle food preparation, portion control, and basic diet information while maintaining safety and sanitation standards in a hospital kitchen.

Responsibilities include setting up stations, delivering trays to patients, and assisting cooks, with rotating early shifts that keep patient care at the forefront of daily operations.

Qualifications

• Experience or training demonstrating ability to perform food service duties.
• Qualification will be evaluated under OPM Federal Wage System standards.
• Screen-out element applies; minimum qualification requirement must be met.

Responsabilités

• Set up and break down assigned station with supplies and food items.
• Portion food items into standard serving sizes using proper utensils.
• Decide what food items to serve for common diets when diet card identifies only the diet.
• Provide patients with information about modified diets and nutrition services.
• Identify discrepancies between prescribed diets and menu items.
• Follow recipes and sanitary techniques when preparing formulas and nourishments.
• Deliver meal trays to patients' bedsides.
• Report patient comments and complaints to supervisor or dietitian.
• Assist cooks in food preparation, labeling, and arranging items.
• Prepare fresh fruit, salads, dressings, fillings and simple desserts for patients.
• Perform final checks of diet trays for completeness and temperature.
• Work in kitchen areas including food prep, dishwashing, storage, and serving line.
• Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks and other duties as assigned.
