Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a patient meal service representative to obtain meal selections, deliver trays, and ensure accuracy with special diets and allergies.

You will use EPIC and VST, maintain cleanliness in nutrition centers, follow safety guidelines, and coordinate with nursing and dietitians to support patient nutrition care. Shift is 1pm to 9:30 pm with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand written and oral communication.
• Experience in food service or patient meal delivery preferred.
• Knowledge of special diets and allergies advisable.

Responsibilities

• Answer patient calls following customer service standards.
• Follow diet restrictions including allergies and fluid limits.
• Use EPIC and VST to process patient menu requests.
• Prints and delivers meal nourishment orders to kitchen staff.
• Notify nursing of missed meal reports and assist as needed.
• Deliver or retrieve meal trays as required.
• Assist patients designated as needing help with menu selections.
• Deliver meals within service timeliness guidelines.
• Adhere to hand hygiene, infection control, and two patient identifiers.
• Check trays for missing items and restock condiments.
• Document information required for ordered calorie counts.
• Monitor new patients’ knowledge of room service and explain menus.
• Maintain rapport with nursing staff and support dietitians.
• Communicate special requests to tray line and production.
• Meet sanitation and HAACP guidelines for cleanliness.
• Collect and return patient trays to kitchen in a timely manner.
• Assist the room service line or dishroom as needed while waiting for trays.
• Follow procedures for phone and iPad use.
• Other duties as assigned; may include dietetic assistant tasks.
• Daily deadlines: complete menus by required times and deliver meals on time.
