Job summary

Avera Cancer Institute-Sioux Falls is seeking a Patient Advocate to assist patients and families through insurance, billing, and program applications. You will screen for program eligibility, complete applications, and coordinate referrals with care teams to facilitate access to treatment and coverage.

Qualifications

• Associate's social work, coding, or a healthcare-related field is required.
• 1-3 years of healthcare and insurance verification experience.

Responsibilities

• Obtain detailed patient insurance benefit information for all aspects of care, including referrals and authorizations.
• Identify self-pay patients and evaluate coverage opportunities; assist with applications for coverage and drug assistance.
• Discuss benefits and financial concerns with patients/family; communicate financial information to team members and patients.
• Manage insurance authorizations and drafts of medical necessity letters; coordinate level II appeals with medical staff oversight.
• Assist patients with copay assistance, compassionate use drug programs, and patient assistance; help with work-related documentation.
